Work begins on Memorial Plaque

Please note the plaque commemorating the names on the young men who lost their lives in World War 2 has been be removed from the Memorial earlier today, Thursday 18th July.

The plaque is being removed to correct the initials of Robert Thomas Jenkins of the Royal Army Medical Corp, who died on the 19th July 1944.

A specialist company will remove the plaque and work on removing the T and J and replacing them with newly cast matching bronze letters R and T.

The works are expected to take around 4 weeks.

Once completed the plaque will be reinstated on the Memorial.

The incorrect initials were highlighted by a close relative of Private Jenkins who lives in the village by the History Group when they were researching the names on the plaque, it is understood the family tried to get the plaque corrected at the time but were not successful.
